WIP Chi - Grimtales from Down Below

Description

Here's my progress work in making Chi, a fan character made by bleedman of his Grim Tales from Down Below comics. Ok here goes:

Headpiece #1 - I was actually clueless on how to make the lotus flower on her head, so I got help from this tutorial: youtu.be/rHIWdzIfQxA

Yup, this is based on an origami method! But instead of paper, I used craft-foam so it's sturdier & easy to adjust while folding. I cut 4 pink pieces to make the base petals, then cut 5 red craftfoam stripes for the main petals. I used ordinary yellow art paper to make the pollen inside because we need to make this look flimsy.

I folded the red petals & the yellow pollen together, then tied it with craft wire. Next spread the petals apart, turn the whole thing over & start pulling the stripes upwards (yellow pollen first, then the petals), until you've created your flower.

I glued a gator-clip underneath the pink base petal (also sew it for reinforcement), turn it over and finally glue the main red petals unto it.. TA~DAH!!

Headpiece #2 - The tassles are wrapped in gold fabric details & attached to her black horns, which are made of craftfoam. This was literally the easiest piece among all the other "things" on her head :faint:

Yukata - The collar detail is a rickrack trim. And I've decided to used textured fabric for the sleeve-hem, to show some royalty. The geometric design on it is embroidered.. well actually, it's just my machine setting of a button hole but hey it works nyaha! :meow:

Obi belt - I love making obi belts!! Chi's obi-belt is another textured fabric, since it had to stand out from her plain yukata. Then I tried to make it as oriental as possible by using a golden rope for the belt detail instead of just a regular bias tape.

As for the center piece, I was confused at first if it was ok to use feathers or an actual fan. I decided to stick to the feathers and this is not entirely finished yet since I have to add the gray tips and cut it symmetrically like a fan. But I'm glad that's nearly done! *woohoo* Unto to the shoulder guard next~!

Shoulder guards - These babies were actually crafted by my friend MK Morreaux. I didn't have time to make them myself since I'm such a noob at props and the like nyaha! So I am very happy that they turned out really beautifully~!!

You'll also notice here a preview shot of my cosplay in completion already, with the wig and the red flamey glare. The flames are actually crumpled cellophane paper glued right above my right eye. Don't worry, I used eyelash glue for this! :))

Well I hope this helped future cosplayers wanting to cosplay this crazy daughter of Aku nyaha! I promise you she is devilishly fun, even if her shoulder guards kept poking people~!! :mwahaha:
